It is with much regret that I announce the passing of Dr. Veronica Evanson Bernard. Ms. Evanson as she was known to the many Antigua Girls High School students passed on peacefully earlier this evening having reached 80 years old. Dr. Evanson Bernard was ill for some time but died comfortably at home in New York. To her family we extend our condolences. As Antigua Girls High graduates we mourn the loss of a teacher and scholar whose early influence on our intellectual and academic careers will cause her to live on for many more years to come. Thank you, Ms Evanson. Your work is done. May you rest in joy and peace.

"As a psychologist I am fascinated by the broader role of poetry in human life.
The presence of poetry is to be found in most cultures around the world. I am also energized by the common and different functions of psychology and poetry and the extent to which there is a complementary relationship between them and the role of both, in personal growth and development.
A Difference: While scientific psychology, taught in schools and colleges, today, began its official existence in 1879 in Liepzig, Germany. poetry if we take early Greece as a reference point, goes back at least 2,500 years. ( Does this tell us anything?)
A Similarity: Both psychology and poetry have as their common focus the self and its expressions. While philosophers, notably Descartes, and later psychologists struggled with the problem of the existence and relationship of mind, body and soul, poetry provided the opportunity for this emerging conscious of the self to express itself.
Question: Is one more important than the other? Do we need both? How do they function today? How does each effect YOU?
